Once, long ago, the silence was easy to find.
Walk to the park, or to your place of worship,
And the quietude would fill you to the brim.
Today it's not so simple, and the silence is gone.
It breathed its last amidst the clutter of
Telephones, internet, radios, televisions.
I miss the solitude;
The hush of deepening dusk
Was treasured, sought after.
Now it has departed this realm,
Lost to raucous music and video game sounds.
I mourn the loss,
Pierced to the heart,
Desperately yearning for
What was lost.
